Good Finds| Franca Sozzani reveals she doesn't do fashionistas or meetings!
"I never do meetings. Never. If people are responsible and creative, they don't need to have a teacher," Franca Sozzani, editor of Vogue Italia, tells Industrie magazine.
The insider glossy - which calls itself "the world's first culture of fashion magazine», featured Anna Wintour on the cover of its first issue in April 2010. (Wintour is no fan of meetings either and is infamous in Condé Nast circles for her brusque, no-nonsense five-minute staff meetings).
Sozzani is outspoken: she told Newsweek that Dior should "hire back John Galliano," when everyone wanted to distance themselves from the fallen fashion designer. In an interview with the New York Times she said, "I think the image of our country doesn't reflect at all what we are made of in Italy. When you look in magazines, it looks like all women are vulgar and involved in a sex scandal. This is not Italy, and we should not accept it. I don't recognize my country in this way."
She also told the same interviewer she hates fashionistas. Aside from her outspoken nature, Industrie celebrates Sozzani for embracing digital media: taking her magazine online with "wholehearted commitment... She personally oversees vogue.it which, as it's in English, has allowed those of us outside of Italy to hear the voice of her Vogue for the first time. "She has shown the world that a Vogue editor isn't some ethereal, untouchable fashionista," writes the magazine, "but a real human being whose love of fashion isn't the be all and end all of her existence."
